I don't know if others have scores or piano transcriptions of the Villa-Lobos but they're up to his usual standard of difficulty as far as I can see. The last item is V-L's Bachianas No 1 for the 8 cellos. The Tres Cancoes Negras are easy (for me, anyway) to assimilate - beautifully sung. It seems to catch this work's spirit like no other performance.īetter still, the CD includes a few songs for the same ensemble by Marlos Nobre, a little more dissonant that Villa-Lobos but pleasant and with signs of influence of the latter. Ms Jurado has just the voice for this and carries the Dansa with an airy lightness. Excellent playing with Villa-Lobos' rhythmic complexities brought just enough to the fore. And.it's a somewhat different performance - feisty, energetic without the Mata rush.

Then suddenly I came upon the Channel Classics recording CCS 15598 by the Cello Octet Conjunto Iberico with Pilar Jurado (soprano) someone I haven't heard before.

Villa lobos bachianas brasileiras 5 imslp how to#
Villa-Lobos' own with Bidu Sayao is old and suffers from poor recording but Bidu Sayao knew how to sing this music in my opinion. Batiz feels it essential to rush the whole time and other performances seem more gentlemanly than latin. The recording by Batiz / Hendricks didn't work nor a few others. Maybe I'm being too particular but the only performance I've found with any bite is the 1960s version by Bernstein/Netania Davrath. This is probably one of his more famous works - turns up on any Villa-Lobos selection CD.
